Now that Anne Dick has spoken out in her memoir about Philip K. Dick, I feel the need to present Phil's defense, since he is not here to do so. Anne writes that Phil used to beat her, but she stayed with him because that was what the culture of her time and place encouraged.
Phil complained that he was afraid of his third wife Anne because she used to attack him physically, kicking him and punching him, and even shoving a lighted cigarette into his ear. Apparently, what set her off was his habit of flirting with other women. He also claimed that she threatened him with a loaded gun on more than one occasion, when he tried to leave her.
Violence is a two-way street, and it takes two to make a fight.

Thank you for this other side of the story. Balance is important and a fuller picture always useful.
you're welcome, Nick -- I can't speak to the truth of either side, since I was not there, but I do believe that both sides should be presented

You are exactly correct, Phil is not here to speak for himself. Abusers tend to be consistent in their treatment of women, as such, your experiences are crucial. If you are saying Phil did not abuse you physically, then that is pretty strong evidence in his defense.
thanx for commenting, rdsmith -- Phil was not physically abusive
